Problems with symbol/puctuation pad remapping

I try to remap the symbol/puctuation pad to include some text macros. The problem is that when I do this, the characters from symbol/punctuation pads and the main layout get combined. For example, under the right index finger I have "t" on the main layout, and "click" on the symbol pad. When I activate the symbol pad and press the key, I get "tclick". When I look at the main layout mapping, under t there is also "click". When I remove it, it disappears also from the symbol pad. Any workout for this problem? I see great potential for myself in symbol/puctuation pad for mapping text macros with the words I use most often. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hmm. It should work as you want it to, not as you describe...

One thing to try is editing the XML file. Open the version where you have unwanted sharing of operations and find the section for that key. There should be a list of layouts next to each action which you can edit...

Make sure you take a copy of the file before you edit it; you can't break anything playing with this, but you might end up with a file that won't load.

The last time I saw a problem like this, I found that restarting the editor fixed the problem, more or less. Never found the cause of the problem though.

I had this problem consistently with specific key-macro combinations, but that was some time ago, and I don't remembr what they were. I do know that sometimes when I kept going through the same steps two or three times in a row it would eventually work. Other times I had to edit the XML file. If I remember correctly, the problem was that it was putting the macro on the windows keyboard instead of a specific layout...
