View Full Version : interference from cell phone ??

I've been noticing a very strange phonemenon. Every time I'm using my cell phone, my touchstream seems to go crazy. I get random mouse movements, cursor movements, and sometimes random gestures.

Here's what I mean: I pick up an incoming call (or initiate an outgoing call). Soon after the conversation starts, the touchstream goes into its frenzy. Most of the time, I'm not even touching the keyboard when it happens. If I do try to gesture(v) or mouse(v), things just jump around unpredictably. I have a feeling it's my new phone (Motorola V600), which is unfortunate because it's so much better than my old Samsung S105.

Has anyone else experienced similar difficulties?

This has been documented many times a while back in the forums. Anything that emits a lot of EM radiation could potentially interfere with the TS because of the way the capacitive sensors work.

Edit: I should add that anything short of EMP or wall socket voltage should not damage the sensors. At least I've never heard of such damage. So just move the interfering devices (or make a Faraday cage around the TS :) ).

Certain cellphones do cause interference when they are receiving or making a call. The only solution is just to move the phone a little farther away from the TS.

We have actually zapped the surface with a tesla coil (10s of thousands of volts) to test the units. They still worked afterwards but we do not recommend doing this to your unit. :)

I guess I better move my coil off my computer desk....
