Recently I have begun to have a problem on my Touchstream LP whereby keys will suddenly start triggering themselves, when my hands are nowhere near the keyboard. Sometimes, keypresses are generated many times in a row -- bringing the computer to a crash.

I have run the diagnostics program several times, but it always says that all sensors are ok.

This has been happenning several times a day (I would say an average of 3 to 5 times a day for the past several weeks). The keystrokes that spontaneously happen are always from the left panel.

Any ideas? Is this the beginning of a general keyboard malfunction?

Thanks for any help.

Make sure there is no liquid on the surfaces, since that would cause spontaneous keystrokes.

Also, static electricity can cause things to go haywire, so discharge yourself before touching the keyboard.

Other than that, I don't know what could cause the behavior you described. Except.... one time I had a small USB light by the keyboard. It was a cold cathode tube like what's in a scanner. It caused some strange behavior - I guess because of the EM fields it put off. Make sure there isn't anything that could cause that kind of interference nearby.

"Sometimes, keypresses are generated many times in a row -- bringing the computer to a crash."

What system could be brought down by repeated keystrokes? ;) j/k

I am oretty sure it is not liquid or static electricity because it happens when my hands are nowhere near the keyboard. (It can crash the system bec. I have macros programmed for certain keypresses to launch multiple programs, and if they keep launching, it can crash the system).

Well, when I got those phantom key presses, it was when i was moving my chair back on one of those chair mats offices are so enamored with. I think that the static was traveling from my headphones to the metal base of the keyboard and then causing voltage fluctuations in the key surface. I narrowed it down to the headphones cuz my hand or feet weren't touching anything and it would only happen when i was moving my chair. Since then, I've tapped down the headphone cord and ditchid the mat and I have very little problems with it now.
